4 Tips to Create a Memorable Business Card
A great business card is still an important part of a great marketing plan, especially relative for its size and cost. A business card is a first impression for you company and can make or break future business. You can’t expect a business card to tell your whole company story, but you should expect it to present you in a professional way that’s memorable to people. Swapping contact information digitally can seem impersonal. Good networking requires making genuine connections. So how do you ensure your card tells your story and remains consistent to your brand in the best possible way? Here are some great tips for creating a business card.
#1 - First Impressions Matter
Business cards show you come prepared and remember that first impressions matter greatly for customers. You don’t need a fancy, diamond encrusted, $1,500 business card to make a good impression, however. You should create a design that distinguishes your business from the competition and encourages people to get in touch. You will want a business card that connects people to who you are and you certainly don’t want them to associate you to anything unprofessional and cheap. Your business card should reflect your business’s qualities and should choose a style that is appropriate for the industry.
#2 - Make it Meaningful
Your business cards should resonate well after a meeting. This will help determine how long your card will ‘keep’. Original cards can draw extra attention to your business. Some cards have movable pieces or are made to look like something unconventional. Magnetic cards work really well for household services like plumbing and gardening. Customers can stick these to their fridge to have the perfect reference at any time. Anyone in their home can see who they use for their services, so if you’re meaningful to them, they will refer you.
#3 - Size and Shape Matters
It’s important to know the size and orientation of the business cards you want. This doesn’t only affect the size and amount of information that your card can hold, but how your business is conveyed through the card. You should use colors and elements that are tied to your business and brand. This will aid in easy recognition. Many businesses settle for the more traditional horizontal cards, but seeing a vertical card is less common and can be used to differentiate yourself from any competitors. If standing out is your goal, consider going for a more specially designed tree. Use this to add a special touch like a metallic finish or a special card shape.
#4 - Consistency is Key
If your main colors are blue and white and your typeface is Roboto, your business card might be confusing if the color is green and the font is some kind of squiggly. You want customers to remember you and easily recognize your business card from another. Use your brand colors and logo when you’re designing a business card. Make sure the contact details are easy to follow. The way your info is laid out is important, as well. If you’re not sure how to lay out your information, just go with the classic layout: Company Name, First and Last Name, Job Title, followed by your Contact Information. Before you have settled on your design, proofread, proofread, proofread. Everything needs to be triple checked to ensure your customers can contact you in any way they feel most comfortable.
Despite huge technological advances, business cards are still an irreplaceable part in a company’s marketing. In a highly competitive marketing environment, customers trust in companies they feel they know. Business cards are only one piece of that puzzle, though. They help significantly in building a brand’s identity. Check out these awesome examples of creative business card designs.
